iZotope Brings Studio Quality Audio Effects to iPhone & iPod Touch Developers

iZotope, Inc., a leading innovator in audio signal processing technology, has expanded their extensive licensing program with a suite of audio enhancement tools and effects available for integration into 3rd party software applications for the iPhone and iPod touch handheld devices.

"We are seeing a significant demand for our audio effect libraries on the iPhone as thousands of developers are flocking to this revolutionary platform. These developers are redefining the way consumers interact with their music and audio," explained Mark Ethier, CEO of iZotope. "With our offerings for the iPhone, we are excited to enable their innovation as the first to offer high quality audio algorithms for developers to integrate into their applications."

Over the years, many companies have come to rely on iZotope's research and development, product design, and long-term support to help improve and differentiate their products. The new iZotope Mobile Audio software development library is based on award-winning and innovative audio DSP code base derived from iZotope's best in class professional and consumer product lines. Now phone applications can benefit from the same audio processing technology used by millions of people in over 50 countries, from independent musicians to major broadcast and recording studios and GRAMMY Award winners.

Two key iPhone application developers will be among the first to incorporate iZotope technology into their products. "FiRe" from Audiofile Engineering and "SmackTalk!" from Marcus Satellite will both feature licensed audio tools from iZotope.

Audiofile Engineering, a leading Mac-based developer of professional audio products, plans to incorporate iZotope audio effects for audio normalization, cleanup, and enhancement in an upcoming release of their highly-regarded "FiRe" Field Recorder App for the iPhone. "We already rely on iZotope's expertise and audio DSP for our Mac OS X line of products, so it was natural for us to work with iZotope to bring high quality audio processing to the iPhone," explains Matthew Foust, Co-founder of Audiofile Engineering. Audiofile Engineering is actively developing new iPhone applications as well as providing development services to produce third party iPhone applications.

Marcus Satellite, an animation and electronic music veteran turned App producer, is looking forward to using the iZotope audio effects SDK in his top-100 best selling iPhone App "SmackTalk!" to enhance his users' experience by adding a wide array of interactive voice effects. "I've been using iZotope's audio DSP technology as VST plug-ins on the desktop, and I'm excited about having that level of quality and interactivity available on the iPhone platform".

Big Nerd Ranch Announces Cocoa II Bootcamp, July 13-17, 2009

Big Nerd Ranch, Inc., premier provider of intensive classes for programmers, web developers and system administrators, has recently reconfigured its approach to Cocoa instruction. This year, the training company, which has built a reputation for educational excellence, identified a growing need for advanced level classes for Cocoa developers. To meet that need, Big Nerd Ranch has developed Cocoa I and Cocoa II Bootcamps, with the first Cocoa II Bootcamp scheduled for July 13-17, 2009.

"For the past eight years, we have taught countless Cocoa training classes for developers with an interest in Cocoa coding with an intensive week-long accelerated approach that brings virtual novices to becoming confident Cocoa developers," said Aaron HIllegass, Big Nerd Ranch founder and president. "However, in that time, Cocoa has increased its sophistication and complexity of tools and capabilities, resulting in increased pressure on Cocoa developers to adopt new skills in order to remain competitive."

The new class provides the framework for developers with prior experience in Cocoa, or who have already taken Cocoa Bootcamp, to take their existing abilities to the next level. For the truly motivated learner, the new bootcamp is taught back-to-back with Cocoa I Bootcamp, providing students with the opportunity to go from Cocoa beginner to Cocoa master in two short weeks.

"Many of the developers who have taken our Cocoa Bootcamp, even from two or three years ago, have expressed a need to further refine their skills to fully integrate recent enhancements into their application development," Hillegass continued.

The class builds on the Cocoa I Bootcamp syllabus and provides even more in-depth Cocoa training on advanced features like integrating custom text into applications, and supporting Spotlight, Quick Look and AppleScript. The syllabus also includes:

  • Authoring an Apple Help book

  • Delivering applications with Package Maker

  • Using the Sparkle framework to deliver automatic updates to an application

  • Building an application that renders OpenGL graphics and implementing a 2-dimensional slider control

  • Building a status item for the menu bar and control its default behavior with a custom system preference pane

  • Using advanced-level features of Interface Builder

  • Analyzing Cocoa code with LLVM/CLANG instead of GCC

New Django Bootcamp at the Big Nerd Ranch October 19-23, 2009

Gone are the days where organizations could get by with a simple, static web presence. These days, organizations need dynamic, database-driven sites, capable of integrating multiple functionalities, including new social media.

For the developers charged with creating those sites, the Python-based framework of Django solves that problem by allowing rapidly developed and easily deployed web applications and websites capable of growing as the organizational needs grow. The faster a developer learns to master Django, the more quickly that mastery can lead to productivity; and there is no faster or more comprehensive way to achieve that mastery than with Django Bootcamp at the Big Nerd Ranch, October 19-23, 2009.

"With Django, the emphasis is on speed," said Juan Pablo Claude, Django Bootcamp instructor. "Students will soon become adherents to Django's Don't Repeat Yourself (DRY) principle, which virtually eliminates duplication of code and streamlines development. And by using the Google AppEngine, applications can be easily and efficiently deployed, and scaled to grow as needs grow."

In just five short days, the Django training class provides intensive instruction to transform novice to expert so students can get on their way to developing high-powered, sophisticated web applications in Django.

By the end of the week, students will be able to:

Deploy Django applications using Apache
Integrate databases into applications, using PostgreSQL, MySQL or SQLite
Eliminate duplication with Django's powerful template system
Implement AJAX solutions into applications using Django
Create web services using Django and generate email and PDF and CSV files
Utilize the Google AppEngine to deploy Django applications and boost an organization's ability to create new web-based businesses

While prior experience in Python is not required, it can be helpful in preparing for the class. Students should, however, be familiar with object-oriented programming.

iPhone Development, Finally For The Rest Of Us - iPhone App Classroom Allows Regular People To Create Their Own iPhone Apps Without Programming

iPhone development has exploded with countless rags-to-riches stories. Now, with an onslaught of programmers currently attending Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC), the rest of us are clamoring to know, "How can I make my own iPhone App?" iPhone App Classroom, announced during the conference, will finally provide non-programmers with a first-time-ever opportunity to profit from what is being called "Codeless iPhone Development." Using a proven, comprehensive iPhone development method, iPhone App Classroom will enable regular people to successfully create their own iPhone Apps and launch them live to 79 countries simultaneously.

iPhone development has become a popular way for aspiring entrepreneurs to leverage their creativity and generate revenue from the global economy without getting bogged down with the day to day minutiae of running a business. The App Store, Apple's online catalog for delivering Apps to the iPhone market, reached its one billionth download in eight months, proving to be one of the fastest new-device adoptions in history.

A vast number of would-be developers are pressing hard to find a way they can take advantage of this opportunity. iPhone App Classroom provides a comprehensive system of 25 detailed and easy-to-follow techniques that makes it possible for non-developers to capitalize on the iPhone development market. Even many experienced developers are looking to iPhone App Classroom to learn how to successfully market their own mobile Apps to increase revenues. "This exceeded my expectations and would make a great asset to any organization," commends Shunsake Ambo, CEO of Kanematsu (Fortune 100, $9.9 billion in revenue).

"iPhone App Classroom brings accessibility to iPhone development and provides a distinct advantage to people of all backgrounds to launch their own successful iPhone Apps," says Chad Cory, creator of the method driving iPhone App Classroom. "This is done by combining a distinct technique at every stage of releasing an iPhone App - from deciding which App to make all the way to attracting customers from the 30 million iPhone and iPod Touch users in 79 countries. It is important to realize that it takes more than a simple 'ah-ha' moment to create a successful App - there's a discrete system behind why some Apps are wildly successful and some aren't. There are specific elements that the popular mobile Apps have in common, and it's amazing how few Apps are utilizing them. Now, with the newiPhone SDK 3.0, the market is truly wide open."

The techniques used in iPhone App Classroom (http://iPhone.AppClassroom.com) are not new - they were created and perfected by Cory over the last nine years while architecting Mobile Apps for some of the world's largest Fortune 1000 companies like Kanematsu, Verizon, Shutterfly, and At&t.

Through nearly a decade in the mobile industry, Cory refined his system into 5 modules: App Forming, App Architecting, UI Design, iPhone App Development, and Promotion. "The success of this project is a huge tribute," says David Bagshaw, the former CEO of Shutterfly, Inc, as he remembers the dramatic impact Cory had on Shutterfly's growth during his tenure.

Cory credits the method's overwhelming success to the specific 5 module sequence that connects App-prototypes with customer feedback right from the start - at the idea formation itself - rather than trying to push mistargeted Apps with marketing after they've already been launched. "The key is, with iPhone App Classroom, developers get instant feedback on critical decisions from the market itself. Otherwise, you're really just driving blind without realizing it," Cory admits. This proven system ensures the success of the Apps, and has been attributed to generating more than $200 million in revenue worldwide for Cory's clients.

To commemorate its launch, iPhone App Classroom is releasing a series of free advanced video sessions to the general public on their website. It will be available for a limited time after WWDC. The free content includes full video walkthroughs of several techniques taken straight out of the new iPhone App Classroom training program.

iPhone App Classroom provides a comprehensive iPhone development training to guide both developers and non developers in the growing iPhone Application market. Headed by Chad Cory, a nine year veteran of the mobile industry, the program has been used to generate more than $200 million worldwide for Shutterfly, Coldwell Banker, At&t, Verizon, Vivace, 3Com, and Kanematsu (the oldest and one of the biggest mobile companies in Japan). Based in San Francisco, California, the company can be reached athttp://iPhone.AppClassroom.com or by phone at 888-767-4694.

Quest Software’s New SmartDiff Technology Fits SQL Server Backups in the Palm of Your Hand

Quest Software, Inc. today unveiled SmartDiff, an innovative, patent-pending technology built into the latest version of its market-leading backup and recovery solution, LiteSpeed® for SQL Server. With SmartDiff, LiteSpeed for SQL Server‘s compression ratio jumps from 20:1 up to 40:1, providing powerful SQL backup compression that is comparable to storing more than a terabyte of data on a single USB thumb drive. The result is a unique backup and recovery approach, unmatched in flexibility, that greatly reduces backup times, creates a significantly smaller storage footprint, and maintains a high level of recoverability.

“I’ve relied on LiteSpeed for six years to achieve what I already considered substantial time and disk savings for backup and recovery,” said Thomas LaRock, database administrator at a financial services company. “I’m excited that Quest has introduced new technology that takes this to a whole new level, and continues to add even more value to a tool that helps me do my job more efficiently and instantly saves my organization money.”

Current backup and recovery best practices involve conducting full database backups every night in preparation for disaster recovery scenarios. Because only a small percentage of an organization’s data changes on a daily basis, full database backups are inefficient, while incremental backups require more time and resources than necessary. SmartDiff reduces backup size so substantially that backup times can literally go from hours to minutes, while providing huge storage savings.

“With SmartDiff, Quest brings deduplication technology to SQL Server, continuing the kind of ground-breaking innovation that LiteSpeed has delivered since its inception,” said Billy Bosworth, vice president and general manager of the SQL Server business unit, Quest Software. “SmartDiff provides the amazing levels of storage savings customers need, while also dramatically decreasing backup times – a benefit that often is just as valuable.”

Applied Informatics Releases New Development Platform for C++ Developers

Applied Informatics, the experts in cross-platform C++ software development, announces the new release of its POCO Platform. The POCO Platform is a comprehensive and powerful collection of class libraries and tools for C++ software developers. The proven software enables C++ developers to build modular network- and internet-based applications in a short time and with very little effort.

Highlights of the POCO Platform are Remoting and the Open Service Platform (OSP). Remoting is a framework for implementing object-based inter-process communication (IPC), as well as SOAP/WSDL-based Web Services. Especially when building applications for embedded systems it often makes sense to split an application into separate processes to improve the stability and robustness of the resulting system. With Remoting, different processes can talk to each other simply by invoking methods of C++ objects over process boundaries. Additionally, the support for SOAP/WSDL-based Web Services makes it easy to integrate the resulting systems and applications into enterprise IT environments. The Open Service Platform enables the development of modular, dynamically extensible applications, based on a powerful component and services model. This provides a convincing solution for the problem of how to customize applications for individual configurations like different hardware features or customer-specific requirements. Applications based on OSP can be extended with new components at run-time. It is even possible to upgrade components to new versions without stopping and restarting the entire application.

New in release 2009.1 are support for digitally signed software components in the Open Service Platform, a new Shell Service for console-based administration of OSP applications, as well as improved integration of Remoting into the Open Service Platform. Numerous other improvements round off the new release.

"With the POCO Platform, C++ developers can focus their effort on innovative software features that distinguish their product from the competition, instead of working on infrastructure code such as a web server, inter-process communication of plug-in/component management", explains Günter Obiltschnig, Applied Informatics` Managing Director. "Since 2007, the POCO Platform has been used with great success by our worldwide customers in fields such as industrial automation, automotive test- and diagnosis systems, building automation, consumer electronics and enterprise applications. The great flexibility and scalability of the POCO Platform allows it to be used for embedded systems based on Linux or QNX, as well as on powerful server systems", continues Obiltschnig.

The POCO Platform is based on the free and open-source POCO C++ Libraries. The libraries are developed in an open-source project with contributors from all over the world. The project was started in 2005 by Günter Obiltschnig, now Managing Director of Applied Informatics.
